Our Company

Fiberstar, Inc. is a privately held innovative biotechnology Company focused on enhancing food performance by manufacturing and marketing value-added food ingredients. Its largest brand, Citri-Fi is an all-natural highly functional fiber produced sustainably from orange pulp, rag, core & peel using a patented process. Citri-Fi is GRAS, non-allergenic, neutral in taste & odor,  non-GMO and National Organic Compliant.  This functional fiber line benefits meat, dairy, bakery, gluten-free, sauce, condiments, frozen food, beverage and health & wellness food products through textural improvements, nutritional enhancements and/or cost savings.

Due to Citri-Fi’s high surface area and unique composition of insoluble/soluble fiber and protein, this natural fiber has superior water holding and emulsification properties. As a result, these functional benefits range, depending on the food product, from moisture retention and textural improvements to viscosity, gelling and stabilization. The multiple natural functionalities lends itself to improving nutritional profiles by aiding in fat, sugar and egg reduction, fiber contribution and synthetic ingredient replacement.

Headquartered in River Falls, Wisconsin with manufacturing in Florida and Wisconsin, Fiberstar sells products globally in over 65 countries.

Sustainability

Sourcing

Majority of our portfolio comes from crops that use high efficiency agriculture. The plants are given precise amounts of water and nutrients that are delivered directly to the root system.  This significantly reduces run off and water usage compared to other types of orange groves.

Environment

Fiberstar reduces the environmental impacts of other manufacturing (the orange juice industry) by using a by-product of that industry. The pulp that remains from juice processing used to be dumped or used as animal feed.  Now that pulp is sent to Fiberstar’s manufacturing facility to become Citri-Fi®.

Very little waste is generated during the production of Citri-Fi® citrus fibers.  All fresh orange pulp is received in either bulk tanker of by direct pipeline from our neighboring vendor.  Therefore no packaging waste is generated by this primary raw material.  No chemical processing aids or additives are used during manufacture of Citri-Fi® citrus fiber, which further reduces the environmental impact of this product.

The manufacture of Citri-Fi® citrus fiber uses less water during manufacture than many ingredients with similar functionality.  Furthermore, the water used for sanitation and a significant portion of the water removed from the orange pulp (2-3%) is treated and recycled for use.

Fiberstar also recycles when it can such as super sacks and totes.

Health

The Citri-Fi products enhance food product profiles by improving nutritional content and replacing chemical and synthetic ingredients to support healthy lifestyles. Citri-Fi® may be used to reduce usage of higher volume ingredients that have a greater environmental impact, including eggs, oils, and meats.
